Top Poker Tips

Whether you are playing poker for fun or for money, your objective is probably to win. Heck – even if you’re playing strip poker, the chances are you want to be the one with the winning hand. Poker is a difficult game to master, but our tips will help you to improve your game.

Firstly, understand the rules of the game you are playing. Texas holdem is a different game to stud poker, for example, and many beginner players go in to a poker game unsure of the nuances of the game they are playing. This can lead to costly mistakes.

Secondly, if you are playing online, get used to the poker software before committing yourself to a game. Make sure you know how to use all the options so that you can play hands quickly and easily.

Check the rules of poker at the site you are playing at learn how much the rake is, and what the limits are, and make sure you have enough money to see out the session. If you come to a table without enough money, you could bust out quickly, and be forced to leave the game early. It’s better to play more hands of a lower stakes game, rather than a few short hands.

Don’t be afraid to take notes. Perhaps not while you’re sat at the table – although if you’re playing online there’s no harm in keeping a notepad by your PC. Try to get used to keeping some things in your head, though, so that if you’re sat at a real table you can remember things as the game goes on. Your records – mental or otherwise, should include your thoughts on other players and your thoughts on how you presented yourself in the poker games with them. If you put forward a tight face in your one and only game with someone, then you could use that to your advantage if you are normally a lose player. The general thing to remember is that the more you know about your own style of play, and the style of play of your opponents, the better off you will be.
